
On October 7, 2016, just after 11:00 p.m., officers from Operations Division Midtown and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a serious injury collision in the area of East Grant Road and North Plumer Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles that were involved in a head-on collision.
They were able to determine that a red 2013 Chrysler 200 had been traveling eastbound on E. Grant Road when it veered into westbound traffic and collided head-on with a silver 2008 Chevrolet Suburban. The driver of the Chrysler was immediately transported to Banner University Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the Suburban was not injured in the collision.
On October 10, 2016, the driver of the Chrysler succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. He has been identified as 64-year-old Rickey O. James.
Traffic detectives are continuing the investigation. Neither speed nor impairments appear to be factors in the collision.
