Tucson Police ID Woman Killed In East-Side Shooting

The Tucson Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting of 24-year-old Cassandra Yates that took place Sunday evening at an apartment complex on the east side of town, according to a press release from the Tucson Police Department.

On November 20, 2016, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Tucson Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at 7671 E. Tanque Verde Road. The caller told police that Ms. Yates had been shot inside of an apartment and that the suspect fled the scene. Upon arrival, officers entered the apartment and located Ms. Yates with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. Tucson Fire was on scene and began medical treatment, however Ms. Yates was pronounced deceased shortly after their arrival.

Detectives were able to determine that Ms. Yates and her husband live at the complex in a different apartment. The couple had been visiting a female resident when the shooting occurred. The exact details of the shooting are still being investigated. The female resident remained on scene and spoke with detectives. The victim’s husband left the apartment complex on foot immediately following the incident. Detectives are attempting to locate the husband to obtain further information.
