
Today, the Tucson Mayor and City Council will consider implementing a pilot program designed to help small businesses and developers adapt older, smaller buildings to serve new business purposes that maintain or enhance neighborhood characters and extend the useful lives of the buildings.
The Mayor and Council directed staff to identify additional tools and incentives for development that can be implemented citywide, expanding opportunities for investment beyond the current downtown Infill Incentive District areas.

In 2013, Phoenix began its adaptive reuse program. Up to $4,500 in fee incentives are available to projects that meet the eligibility requirements of that program:
• An independent structure permitted prior to the year 2000
• A change of occupancy or significant alteration to the character of the building
• A change that incorporates the entire building
• A building that is 25,000 square feet or less in size
