Yesterday around 1:45Pm Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic violence call at 14044 W Camelback Rd. in Litchfield Park. The female victim stated that she and her boyfriend were in her vehicle in a parking lot of a business when she attempted to break off her relationship with the suspect, Devante Snead 24 years old. Devante became physically violent, striking her in the face and brandishing a butcher knife and held it to her throat. Devante then forced her to perform a sexual act while still in the car.
After the assault they both went into the business office together and Devante stepped outside. The victim locked the door to the business and was then able to call the Sheriff’s Office and give them a full description of the vehicle and what had occurred.
Deputies immediately responded and located the black Mercedes SUV matching the description and license plate in the business parking lot. Davante, in an attempt to evade deputies, almost collided with patrol vehicles numerous times and then fled Southbound on Litchfield Rd. still failing to stop. Devante recklessly drove into oncoming traffic and eventually collided with a chain link fence and came to a stop in a Wendy’s parking lot where he was taken into custody without further incident.
“This was unnecessary, reckless behavior that could have caused serious injury to innocent members of the public and my deputies” says Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Devante was booked into the 4th avenue jail on the following charges and is waiting for initial appearance court:
- Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon F2
- Kidnapping F2
- Sexual assault F2
- Theft of means of transportation F3
- Unlawful flight from law enforcement F5
- Criminal damage M1
