Two Sierra Vista Suspects Charged With Armed Robbery, Kidnapping

The Sierra Vista Police Department arrested a 23-year-old Sierra Vista man on Wednesday and added new charges against a man arrested yesterday for an armed robbery that occurred at a hotel on Saturday night.

Early Wednesday morning, SVPD detectives developed leads on the second suspect in an armed robbery that took place at a hotel in the 1800 block of E. Wilcox Drive. After conducting surveillance, the detectives arrested 23-year-old Shaquille Rice in the 500 block of N. 7th Street at about 6:30 a.m. He was booked into Cochise County Jail on three counts of kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery, and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.

Rashawn Avery, a 22-year-old Sierra Vista resident who was a person of interest in the armed robbery, was arrested yesterday on charges tied to illegal possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana. He now faces additional charges for the armed robbery. Avery had been fired at multiple times on Sunday in a drive-by shooting that police learned was in retaliation to the robbery.

Avery faces the following additional charges: three counts of kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery, and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in Cochise County Jail on a $150,000 bond.

The suspects reportedly took cash and property from three Sierra Vista residents at gunpoint during the armed robbery on Saturday.
