An investigation is ongoing of an incident that occured on Friday night where a vehicle struck a Sierra Vista Police Officer and a woman suspected of shoplifting at Ace Hardware prior to the accident occurring.
The unnamed officer involved in the altercation with the shoplifting suspect is currently recovering at home, and has been assigned to administrative leave.
This incident began when authorities received a shoplifting report at ACE Hardware, 3756 E. Fry Boulevard on Friday February 24, 2017 at approximately 6:46 pm and a Sierra Vista Police Officer was near the scene.
The SVPD Officer saw a woman matching the description of the suspect and as he attempted to take her into custody she ran into the middle of Fry Boulevard and struggled with the Officer. The struggle resulted in both being struck by a 2008 Toyota sedan that was travelling eastbound.
The woman reamins in stable condition at a Tucson hospital.
