West Valley Carjack Victim Freed After Robbery, Chase

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for an armed man suspected of being involved in a robbery at the Wintersburg General Store in Tonopah on Monday afternoon.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez said witnesses saw a man with a rifle as he goes inside the store.

No one was hurt during the robbery.

The suspect left the scene and deputies see a vehicle that matche the description, they tried stopping the vehicle and it failed to yield. Sheriff’s deputies pursued the vehicle and it came to a stop in the area of 337th Ave North of Old US 80 after a minor single vehicle accident.

The driver fled the scene on foot but deputies locate a female in the vehicle who was restrained. The female was not hurt and deputies learned she was the victim of a carjacking and kidnapping from earlier in the day.

Palo Verde Elementary school was put on lockdown because of the close proximity but it was lifted at 6:00 p.m.
