Edward Mendoza, 37, of Surprise, Ariz., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Diane J. Humetewa to 16 months in prison. Mendoza had previously pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a ward.
Mendoza worked as a Senior Correctional Officer at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Phoenix, Ariz. His duties included supervision of the women’s camp. Between Feb. 1, 2015, and April 2, 2015, Mendoza engaged in sexual intercourse with a female inmate who he supervised at the camp.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General, Denver office.
