Chris Moon Memorial To Be Unveiled Today At Cherry Field

Tucson High Magnet School honors graduates who have died in the line of duty

The public is invited to the unveiling of the Chris Moon Memorial Statue at Tucson High Magnet School’s Cherry Field on Monday, March, 27 at 5 p.m.

Chris Moon was a Badger who went on to play baseball at the University of Arizona. After just one semester, he told his coach that he wanted to retract his scholarship and fulfill his dream of serving his country in the U.S. Armed Forces.

After three tours overseas, he died in 2010 at the age of 20 while deployed in Afghanistan.

The memorial, a life-size statue that shows Chris as a baseball player and as a soldier, was fully funded by donations and was approved by the Governing Board last year.  It is intended to honor all Tucson High Magnet School graduates who have died in the line of duty.

Marsha Moon, Chris’s mother, invites everyone in the community to the unveiling.

“The Moon family would be honored if you could join us for the unveiling of the Chris Moon Memorial,” she said. “Although Chris has been gone for six years, his memory lives on and this memorial will be a lasting reminder of his courage and sacrifice for our freedom.”

Cherry Field is located at 1800 E. 13th St.
