Nogales CBP Officers Catch Smuggler With Cocaine

Smugglers hid 20 pounds of cocaine behind the radio

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Nogales arrested a Mexican man connected with a failed attempt to smuggle cocaine into the United States on Thursday.

CBP officers at the Dennis DeConcini Pedestrian Crossing referred a 22-year-old resident of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico for further inspection Thursday morning of his Chevy SUV. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to a scent it was trained to detect, officers removed several packages of drugs that were hidden behind the radio, which were identified as more than 20 pounds of cocaine, worth almost $484,000.

Officers seized the drugs as well as his vehicle, while the subject was arrested and then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
