YUMA – Nine illegal alien scouts were arrested over the weekend by Special Operations Border Patrol agents.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, agents assigned to the Special Operations Group out of El Paso, Texas and the Yuma Sector Special Operations Detachment apprehended the nine Mexican nationals illegally present in the country near Camp Grip. The men had equipment associated with counter surveillance and intelligence gathering including solar panels, two-way radios, high-power spotting scopes and high-power binoculars.

“While almost half of our manpower is tied up transporting, processing and caring for Central American families and children we have suspected cartel members conducting highly sophisticated smuggling operations,” said Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Porvaznik. “Our primary focus needs to be on our National Security Mission.”
