Old Spanish Trail Lane Closure 22nd Street To Houghton Road

On Thursday, June 2, 2016, westbound Old Spanish Trail will be closed to travel from Houghton Road to 22nd Street from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Eastbound travel on Old Spanish Trail from 22nd Street to Houghton Road will be open to travel during this time.

On Friday, June 3, 2016, eastbound Old Spanish Trail will be closed to travel from 22nd Street to Houghton Road from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Westbound travel on Old Spanish Trail from Houghton Road to 22nd Street will remain open to travel during this time.

These travel lane closures will be in place to allow paving personnel from Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), to safely apply the final lift of asphalt on Old Spanish Trail from Houghton Road to 22nd Street. The narrow width of the travel lanes will  not safely accommodate the paving machine, work crews and motor vehicle traffic at the same time.

This work is part of the reconstruction of Old Spanish Trail from Houghton Road to 22nd Street. Old Spanish Trail is being reconstructed in four phases:

  • Phase I – Remove asphalt, reconstruct subgrade and repave north side (westbound) of Old Spanish Trail.
  • Phase II – Remove asphalt, reconstruct subgrade and repave center section of Old Spanish Trail.
  • Phase III – Remove asphalt, reconstruct subgrade and repave south side (eastbound) of Old Spanish Trail.
  • Phase IV – Repave final layer of asphalt on Old Spanish Trail from Houghton to 22nd Street.

Crews are working on Old Spanish Trail Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The improvement project is scheduled to be complete by the end of June 2016.
