Pedestrian Dies In Benson Highway Collision

On Tuesday June 14, 2016, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Pima County deputies responded to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

When deputies arrived, they learned the car was traveling westbound on Benson Highway when it struck a pedestrian crossing southbound on Benson Highway just west of Palo Verde Road. The pedestrian, 37- year-old Malinda Becker, did not cross the roadway in a marked or unmarked crosswalk.

The Traffic Unit responded and took over the investigation. Ms. Becker was transported to Banner University Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
