Operation Roadcheck, a national commercial truck enforcement campaign, resulted in 705 stops, 698 commercial vehicle inspections and 103 moving violations. 64 commercial vehicle drivers were placed out of service and 111 commercial vehicles were place out of service. The total driver/vehicle violations were 1,542.
Operation Roadcheck was held June 7 through June 9, 2016, in northern Arizona, covering Interstate 40 from milepost’s 150 to 250. The operation’s focus is to prevent collisions involving commercial vehicles and thereby saving lives.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s (AZDPS) Highway Patrol Division assigned 63 state troopers to the operation. They were joined by officials from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, officers from Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Enforcement and Compliance Division, officers from the Kearny Police Department, the Apache Junction Police Department, and deputies from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office. Representatives from the Arizona Trucking Association participated in various functions during the operation.
Additionally, AZDPS’ Share the Road Unit conducted outreach events at the Flagstaff Walmart, the Inter-Tribal Council of Arizona and the Coconino High School in order to teach the best driving practices when driving near commercial vehicles.
Captain Brian Preston, Highway Patrol Bureau Northern Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Commander said, “Such events are a great way for us to engage in industry outreach and public education. By doing so we are fulfilling our goal of increased public safety on Arizona highways.”
