Tempe City Council Calls Special Bond Election

The Tempe City Council has called a Special Bond Election for November 8. Tempe registered voters will decide five separate bond questions that provide authorization to issue bonds in these categories and amounts: Water and Sewer Improvements, $148 million; Street Improvements/Storm Drains, $25 million; Public Safety, $20 million; Park Improvements/Community Services, $34 million; and Municipal Infrastructure Preservation, $27 million.

The election is being held in conjunction with the statewide and national elections on November 8. These questions will appear on the same ballot.

Community members can now file pro/con statements that will appear in the informational pamphlet mailed to each household with a register voter. Each argument must be 300 words or less. Original, signed and notarized pro/con statements, along with the required $100 deposit, must be received by the City Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10. Submissions delivered by hand or by mail will be accepted; the City Clerk’s Office is located at 31 E. Fifth St. E-mail submissions will be accepted, but the hardcopy information and deposit still must be received by the deadline.

If the argument is sponsored by an organization, the original, notarized signatures of two executive officers are required. If the argument is sponsored by a political committee, the original, notarized signature of the committee’s chair or treasurer is required. Persons signing shall also identify themselves by giving their residence or post office address and a telephone number, which shall not appear in the pamphlet. The required deposit for each argument offsets a portion of the proportionate cost of paper and printing of the argument in the pamphlet.

Information about the election is available at www.tempe.gov/election. For questions, call 480-350-4311.
