The DES (Department of Economic Security) has been made aware of a recent fraudulent email being circulated to employers in multiple states, and would like to warn employers of the possible identity theft scheme.
The email notifies employers that a former employee has filed for unemployment benefits and asks the employer to complete an attached form that requests them to send confidential information relating to their employees. This includes social security numbers, dates of birth and other sensitive information.
According to DES officials, the emails identified are originating from the following address locations: Assistance@DETMA.ORG and claim@detma.org.
If an employer receives an email from either of these addresses, DES is advising them to delete the email and report the activity to the Department of Economic Security (DES) through the Unemployment Insurance website at www.AZUI.com.
Arizona Unemployment Insurance does contact employers through email for verification of sensitive information when an employee files for benefits from the following email address only: UIASIDESE-Response@azdes.gov. Initial contact also is made through the U.S. Postal Service mail.
If you suspect that you are being contacted by someone other than the Arizona Unemployment Insurance program, and they are representing themselves as an agent of the program, please contact DES through the website at www.AZUI.com or at 602-771-8321.
