Pima Community College has notified the Arizona State Board of Nursing that its Center for Training and Development (CTD) Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) is out of compliance with two sections of the Arizona Nurse Practice Act. Students are not affected.
The issue was discovered during an ongoing procedure review that is part of the college’s recent reorganization efforts. PCC has been undergoing a realignment of programs and services.
When the Center for Training and Development (CTD) Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program moved under the Dean of Nursing, it was discovered that the CTD-LPN program was out of compliance with two sections of the Arizona Nurse Practice Act. Specifically, these sections were focused on the development and maintenance of a systematic plan of program evaluation and teaching loads for the nurse administrator of the program.
The CTD at Pima houses many of the College’s career training programs, including business technology and culinary and food training programs.
The Nursing Program is one of the college’s highest performing, with certification pass rates above 90% for seven of the past eight years.
Notice of self-disclosure to the issues was sent to the Arizona State Board of Nursing via certified mail and email on July 25/26, 2016, and the college quickly developed actions plans to ensure sustainable compliance.
The program is now reviewing its student learning outcomes, mission, vision, and core competencies while aligning itself to the work of the Associate Degree Nursing program’s curriculum revision. The result will be a nursing division focused under 10 core competencies and programmatic outcomes that are focused within industry-driven models. The Division of Nursing also is addressing staffing and resource needs and aligning to the programmatic goals.
Non-compliance can result in probation but often results in a notice of deficiency and 90 days to resolve the findings.
