City Of Phoenix Extends Section 8 Application Deadline

The city of Phoenix Housing Department has extended the deadline to accept online applications for the Section 8/Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program through 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19.

“After having the wait list open for five days now, we decided to extend the pre-application deadline to give residents, especially those with accessibility concerns, more time to complete the process,” said Cindy Stotler, Housing Department Director. “Extending the deadline definitely gives us the opportunity to help more people and we are very excited about that.”

The pre-application form must be completed online at phoenix.gov/housing via computer, tablet, or smartphone, unless a reasonable accommodation is requested.

“Since the planning stages of this process, we have done our best to make sure that the Section 8 pre-application process is accessible to all individuals and that it is inclusive of those with language barriers,” said Nichole Ayoola, Section 8 Housing Manager. “Applicants can access pre-application information and instructions in more than 50 different languages.”

The Section 8 Wait List Application Steps are available at phoenix.gov/housing. Residents also can call the customer service line at 602-534-1887 for assistance, or 602-262-7497 for reasonable accommodations. Free language assistance services are available.

Public facilities such as libraries and community centers are providing computer access at no cost.

Once the pre-application period closes, 10,000 applicants will be randomly selected using a lottery system and will be placed on the wait list.
