The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a double shooting in the 1700 block of W. 36th St. that turned deadly.
On August 18, 2016, around 4:45 p.m. officers from Operations Division South responded to a report of a shooting victim located in the 1700 block of W. 36th St. Officers arrived on scene and located citizens performing first aid on an adult male victim. The officers observed the victim had obvious signs of gunshot trauma and utilized their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK). Members from the Tucson Fire Department arrived on scene a short time later and transported the victim to Banner University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Prior to transport to the hospital, the victim advised officers he had been in his beige Dodge Ram truck with another adult male. They had picked up a male in the area and shortly thereafter, that male shot both of them. The victim was able to escape but the suspect left in his truck with the other male.
Officers immediately began searching the area and notified detectives. Detectives from the Tucson Police Department Robbery Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation. They interviewed witnesses and collected evidence. They learned the victim and the other male had picked up a male acquaintance (suspect) to provide a ride. As they were traveling westbound on 36th St., the suspect demanded the keys from the victim. Near S. Lands End Rd., the suspect shot the passenger and then shot him. The victim was able to flee from the truck and hide. He observed the suspect then drive away with the passenger and his truck. The victim emerged a short time later and sought assistance at a nearby apartment complex.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, mid to late twenties, about 5’11”, between 170-180 lbs. and multiple tattoos on his arms. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and tan pants.
Additional officers and detectives continued to search for the truck and the missing occupants.
Several hours later, officers canvassing the area spotted the truck. The truck was located in a desert area north of 36th St. and S. Greasewood Rd. When officers investigated further, they located an adult male inside the truck with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. The male was pronounced deceased on scene.
He has been identified as 30-year-old Uriel Galvez-Galvez. Next of kin has been notified. The suspect was not located.
