Pima County Sheriff Says Clown Hysteria Is Not a Laughing Matter

The Pima County Sheriff’s office, under the leadership of Chris Nanos, is warning residents to be careful around clowns.

On Friday the Department issued the following advisory:

Recently there have been several clown sightings throughout the country, some of which have led to arrests. These sightings have sparked a social media trend that has now extended to Arizona.

Though no credible threat exists in Pima County, there are people who choose to use this craze as a means to scare, intimidate, or just be creepy.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind people to remain vigilant, aware, and calm when encountering a situation like this. We will investigate these incidents to the fullest. However, simply wearing a clown suit is not a reason to call 911. If you see a clown behaving suspiciously, please report it to local law enforcement.
