The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a robbery and shooting that took place early Sunday morning in the area of North Westmoreland Avenue and West Alameda Street.
On October 16, 2016, just before 5:00 a.m., officers began receiving reports of shots fired in the area of N. Westmoreland Ave. and W. Alameda St. followed by a report of a victim in the 400 block of W. Congress St. Officers responded to both areas.
Upon arrival, they located an adult male taxi cab driver with obvious signs of trauma. The Tucson Fire Department responded and the male was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives were able to determine the victim worked as a taxi cab driver. Shortly before 5:00 a.m., he responded to the area of N. Westmoreland Ave. and W. Alameda St. to pick up a fare. Once on scene, two Hispanic males entered the cab. The males immediately produced guns and demanded money and other property from the victim.
One of the suspects struck the victim in the head with a gun. The victim began to drive away and the two males exited the vehicle. As the victim was driving away, both males began shooting at the vehicle striking it multiple times. The victim was able to drive to a safe location and police were immediately called.
The officers conducted a search of the area; however neither suspect was located at this time. The suspects were described as Hispanic males, twenty to thirty years of age, about 5’10”, 180 pounds with short black hair and dark clothing. The males are considered armed and dangerous.
