Altar Man with $266K in Hard Drugs Stopped at Border

TUCSON, Ariz. – Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a 34-year-old man from  the small town west of Hermosillo, Altar, Sonora, Mexico, for attempting to smuggle and estimated $266,000 worth of heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine through the Port of Nogales on Oct. 31.

Officers removed more than 40 packages of hard drugs when they inspected a vehicle at the Port of Nogales

After officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing referred the man for a secondary inspection of his Jeep SUV, a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to one of the vehicle’s front wheel wells containing almost 3 pounds each of heroin and cocaine, and more than 62 pounds of meth.

Officers seized the drugs and vehicle, and turned the subject over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
