On Tuesday, November 1st, 2016 at 6:08 p.m. Pinal County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to West Press Road and Barnes Parkway in San Tan Valley regarding an accident involving a vehicle and a 10-year-old female child.
When deputies arrived, the child was breathing but not responsive. Medical personnel provided emergency medical treatment for the child who was later transported by air ambulance to Phoenix Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “The vehicle involved in the accident was a 2003 Ford F-150 truck. It was driven by a 55-year-old San Tan Valley resident. The driver reported, he was traveling northeast on Barnes Parkway when the child ran out eastbound in front of his truck. The driver said he did not see the child until it was too late. The child collided with the front of his truck and rolled over the hood on the passengers side and then landed on the sidewalk. The driver advised he was traveling at 25 mph. The vehicle was stopped approximately 10 feet from where the child landed.”
Additional witnesses at the scene confirmed the drivers account of the accident.
Sheriff Babeu continued, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the 10-year-old child. We pray that she makes a full recovery. Parents please take this opportunity to talk to your children about the importance of looking both ways before crossing roadways. The driver of the truck had no time to react to prevent this tragic accident from happening.”
