
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality is proposing to list the Stone Avenue and Grant Road site in Tucson on the ADEQ Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund (WQARF) site registry pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute §49-287.01, due to a the contaminant tetrachloroethene (PCE).
The public comment period began today, November 15. Parties wishing to submit comments regarding the proposed listing may do so by contacting ADEQ, Attention: William Ellett, 400 W. Congress Street, Suite 433, Tucson, AZ 85701 or wje@azdeq.gov and reference this listing. Comments must be postmarked by December 15, 2016.
The Stone Avenue and Grant Road site is bounded to the north by East Alturas Street, to the south by East Sahuaro Street, to the east by North Estrella Avenue and to the west by North Castro Avenue. Based on results of further investigations and monitoring, the actual extent of contamination may differ and may change as new information becomes available, according to ADEQ.
ADEQ reports that the site score is 45 out of 120. “Based on a review of available information regarding the presence of hazardous substances, the site score does not necessarily represent a determination that the release of a hazardous substance from the site poses a threat to public health or the environment,” reads the ADEQ notice.
