Vaughn Gets 56 Years For Breaking Into Home, Sexually Assaulting Victim

Tilfert Vaughn, age 56, will serve in a total of 56 years in the Department of Corrections, after being sentenced for six counts of burglary, aggravated assault, sexual assault and kidnapping.

On November 5, 2014, Vaughn broke into the victims’ apartment and took a knife from their kitchen. He then ordered a female victim into a bedroom where another female victim was sleeping. The second woman attempted to fight off Vaughn, but was severely injured. Vaughn used the knife to keep both victims on the bed, sexually assaulting one of them before leaving the home.

Investigating officers were able to use surveillance video from the apartment complex, as well as tips from the public, to identify Vaughn as a suspect. Using DNA evidence from a sexual assault kit taken the night of the attack, officers were able to match Vaughn’s DNA to the assault.
