On January 24, 2017, just after 6:15 a.m., Tucson Police officers and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian, 37-year-old Leeann Marie Sanchez, on W. 36th St., west of S. Lands End Rd. Upon arrival, they located Ms. Sanchezan in the roadway with obvious signs of trauma.
Ms. Sanchez was pronounced deceased on scene.
Detectives learned Ms. Sanchez was walking eastbound on 36th St. on the south side of the road as the driver of a 1998 Dodge van was also traveling eastbound on 36th St. The driver observed Ms. Sanchez and moved the vehicle away from her.
However, the Ms. Sanchez stepped into the lane of travel and was struck by the van. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and witnesses rendered aid until medical personnel arrived. Neither speed nor impairment on the driver appears to be factors in this collision.
