Teen Sentenced For “Scary Clown” Threats Towards An Avondale High School

Alonzo Vargas

Alonzo Vargas, age 18, was sentenced to three years of supervised probation and 40 hours of community service for “Scary Clown” threats towards an Avondale high school.

Vargas was charged with one count of interfering with an educational intuition, a Class 6 Felony.

In October of 2016 Vargas posted on social media using hashtags associated with the “scary clown threats” being seen across the nation. The posts also included threats to harm teachers and students at an Avondale high school. The school notified investigators of the threats and they were able to link the posts to Vargas.

Vargas eventually admitted that he did post comments about killing the teachers and students at the school and that he deactivated his account because he did not want to get into trouble. He claimed his actions were a joke meant only for his social media followers.
