On February 10 2017, at approximately 3:20 pm the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received a call for a 27-year-old male hiking the ridge line trail in the Superstition Mountains with his friend. The hiker was navigating a section of the trail when he grabbed ahold of a rock that came loose from the hillside. The rock is estimated to be a couple hundred pounds and it fell on the subject’s leg, crushing it.

The Pinal County Search and Rescue, PCSO Posse and DPS Ranger Helicopter was called out to assist in the incident. DPS Ranger was able to repel in with the PCSO Search and Rescue Posse to stabilize the subject.

He was then short hauled out to an awaiting ambulance where he was transported to a local trauma center.
