Border Patrol agents seized nearly 4,500 pounds of marijuana Friday worth an estimated $2.25 million. Willcox Station agents working at the State Route 90 checkpoint arrested a male Mexican national Friday after agents discovered nearly 2,900 pounds of marijuana concealed in a semi-tractor trailer he was driving.
A canine team alerted to the vehicle, prompting a secondary inspection. The Drug Enforcement Administration will take possession of the drug load valued at $1,450,000. The subject faces possible prosecution according to the Border Patrol statement.
Also Friday, Ajo agents working near Pia Oik Village responded to reports of suspected narcotics smuggling and discovered an abandoned GMC Yukon concealed in dense brush. Inside the vehicle, agents found 86 bundles of marijuana weighing almost 1,600 pounds worth approximately $800,000. The vehicle and narcotics were transported to Ajo Station for turnover to the DEA.
