I suspect the best way to deal with this and please most parents, pro-gun and anti-gun and faculty, is to keep this as low profile as possible but well understood as an active program. We can keep costs down and make this quite practical as follows:
A directive to all school districts to employ a volunteer system involving faculty, administration and maybe even janitorial staff.
1. All volunteer participants to go through background checks and carry conceal courses.
2. Participant’s identities shall be kept private except to key administration person in each school.
3. Communications system (cell phones) in place for immediate contact with cc licensees on campus and key admin person.
4. Most teachers will not feel comfortable actually carrying but shall have a secured lockbox in their desks for keeping firearms.
5. Two or three licensees plus key administrator should be enough to subdue most situations and the mere idea that this system is in place will bring a sense of security not now felt in schools.
6. No badges nor symbols of firearms on campus other than some signs indicating that there is security.
7. No uniforms nor cruisers except on special occasion or by call from key administrator.
8. Occasional special meetings in each district for cc licensees for any updates and information sharing. All/any such meetings set by secure communications and not open to public.
I am sure, at least in Tucson, that we can get good/discounted rates for CC Training and, with a little work on this, licensee granted ability to write off firearm expense for each person who is a designee for school security. If I need to back this up I am willing to talk to shop owners I know on this matter.
This is a sick fad going around and needs immediate attention; not the lengthy debates and elaborate programs I see being discussed. Let me know if you have any questions about this plan.
