Miranda to be permanent City of Tucson manager

When Richard Miranda was chosen to serve as Tucson’s interim city manager, no one doubted that he had the permanent job locked up. Tucsonans assumed the fix was in and it was simply a matter of biding time until the public forgot about promises of a national search for the best available person by our city leaders.

Richard Miranda used to be Tucson’s Police Chief before becoming the interim manager. He gets a state pension of $135,887 a year for the rest of his life, and  $166,940 a year as interim manager, bringing in a total of more than $302,000 a year.

If Miranda remains on the job for another year and a half, he will receive a second annual pension of $22,837.

Parade magazine just named Miranda has one for the highest paid persons in Tucson, and they didn’t include his pension.

City officials said that they said they hoped to conduct interviews by late April and have a candidate named by May 1. According to Mike Rankin, the City’s attorney, 25 people applied for the job. He did not say if interviews were conducted.
