On March 24, 2013, a Tucson mother reported to police that her 13-year old daughter was having inappropriate conversations with an adult male over the social networking site, Facebook. During the investigation, detectives determined that the suspect, 24-year old Alexander Zumot, had arranged to meet the 13-year old girl to partake in sexual acts, for which he would pay her money.
During their conversations, Zumot portrayed himself as a younger person to make the victim feel more comfortable. On April 2, 2013, the suspect arrived at a location to meet the victim where he was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Child Predator Apprehension Team and Tucson Police Detectives. The suspect was identified as 24-year old Alexander Zumot. He was booked into the Pima County Jail for 1 count of Aggravated Luring a Minor for Sex, 1 count of Unlawful Age Misrepresentation and 1 count of Attempted Child Prostitution.
Further investigation revealed Zumot may have had contact with additional juvenile victims. The police are urging anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact 911 or 88-CRIME.
The Tucson Police Department urges parents to continually monitor their children’s Facebook and any other Social Media Accounts they have access to. Knowing and monitoring your child’s online friends, connections and conversation is crucial for their safety.
