Gosar requests hearing on Holder “No Confidence”

Arizona’s congressman, Paul Gosar, sent a letter to the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee requesting a hearing on his Resolution of No Confidence in Attorney General Eric Holder (H. Res 35). Gosar is making the request due to the Obama Administration’s push “to pass legislation which would create additional barriers for Americans to lawfully exercise their Second Amendment rights.”

Gosar believes now is the time for a committee hearing to take up his Resolution of No Confidence in Attorney General Holder. The Resolution stems from Holder’s actions and inactions pertaining to the misguided and unlawful Operation Fast and Furious.

Gosar released a statement last week on the subject, “As the Obamas step up their unconstitutional gun grabbing efforts, it is imperative we not forget the role the U.S. Department of Justice, through its Attorney General, had in facilitating the trafficking of thousands of firearms to violent Mexican cartels through the use of straw purchasers. The government should not engage in illegal activities that would send anyone else to jail for a long time. Passing my Resolution of No Confidence in Attorney General Holder is an important step acknowledging that Congress will not stand by as bureaucrats abuse public trust and put lives at risk with no consequence.”

Gosar says that the “hypocrisy of President Obama’s latest attempts to restrict the lawful and constitutionally protected rights of Americans to own firearms while protecting Attorney General Holder is astounding. This Administration has specifically touted the need for tougher laws to prevent straw purchases and stricter penalties for the type of straw purchases used in Fast and Furious while allowing those who ran the operation to evade consequences.”

In January, Gosar introduced a Resolution of No Confidence in U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. The resolution states “that it is the sense of the House of Representatives that Congress has lost confidence in the Attorney General of the United States and thereby requests his immediate resignation.”

Gosar garnered 48 co-sponsors before the resolution was filed in the 113th Congress. He introduced a similar resolution last year that had over 114 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives.

At the time he said he was “very frustrated that it is even necessary for me to reintroduce this resolution. Attorney General Holder continues to evade his constitutional obligations to provide Congress and the American people answers for Operation Fast and Furious.”

Operation Fast and Furious allowed for thousands of weapons to cross the border from the United States and into the hands of Mexican cartels and other criminals. This operation directly violated U.S laws, Mexican laws, and international laws
