Arizona desert crossing deaths mount

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a body in the desert, south east of Gila Bend. The deceased male subject was located near mile post 124 south of interstate 8 on Monday morning. This discovery came only days after four bodies were recovered just a couple miles east of Monday’s location.

A Sheriff’s deputy on patrol approached a metal storage building near two empty water tanks, when he saw what appeared to be two human feet inside the structure. The deputy approached an opening and noticed a male subject lying on the floor. No identification was found and there were no signs of trauma or foul play. Sheriff’s Detectives have not determined if this subject is connected to the four subjects that were found in the same area on June 20, 2013.

“For quite some time now, I’ve been warning, border crossings in this harsh desert, is very dangerous” said Arpaio. “My deputies will continue to respond and assist on any calls for help in the desert, no matter what the cost.”

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the U.S. Border Patrol, has rescued 24 persons lost in the desert over the past several weeks.
