Partisan clothing now allowed at polls

The passage of House Bill 2722 allows voters to enter polling places wearing political garb. The new law takes effect before the Aug. 28 primary.

Prior to its passage voters were prohibited from “electioneering” by wearing campaign clothing, with a candidate or political-party logo, including buttons, T-shirts, and hats. The bill limits the definition of electioneering to speech intended to persuade someone to vote a certain way.

Election workers are still prohibited from wearing partisan clothing.

The bill was sponsored by Rep. Eddie Farnsworth (R), of Gilbert.
