Suspect caught in Sun Van shooting

Lawrence OrtizOn August 21, 2013, about 4:15 p.m., Pima County responded to the Sun Van facility about a shooting. The victim, a Sun Van driver, was on his way back to the facility when a truck stopped in front of him and two armed subjects got out.

The Sun Van driver made an immediate left turn onto Broadmont and headed towards the facility parking lot. As he pulled into the lot, the same vehicle stopped on the road behind him. The driver saw an armed subject get out of the truck and fire multiple shots toward the bus. After discharging his weapon, the subject got back into the truck and drove away.

Deputies immediately started a coordinated search and located the truck at a residence in the 3000 block of South Tower Way. Deputies detained four individuals at that location.

Detectives learned 27-year-old Lawrence Ortiz was involved in the shooting. He was later transported to the Pima County Adult Detention Center and booked on the following charges:

• Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon
• Prohibited Possessor in Possession of a Deadly Weapon
• Discharging a Firearm at a Non-Residential Structure
