On the morning of Sunday, October 6, Pima County deputies responded to the 12300 block of South Nogales Highway in reference to a man down. When deputies and the Rural Metro Fire Department arrived, they located an unidentified deceased male on the east side of the road.
The Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit responded and took over the investigation. The death was deemed a homicide because the victim was found with obvious signs of trauma.
This is the first time the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has used its Leica Scan Station to assist in a homicide investigation. The Leica Scan Station is a laser scanner that allows forensic investigators to quickly and with precise accuracy record an accident or crime scene.
The $100,000 plus scanner allows crime scenes to be recorded quickly so a road or crime scene can be reopened. Additionally the scanner allows the investigators to prepare a 3D image for use in court if needed.
Anyone with further information on this incident is encouraged to call 9-1-1 or 88-CRIME.
