The Yellow Sheet is reporting that state senate President Steve Pierce “faces potential challenges from both sides of his caucus.” The Republican senator made headlines last week for his controversial decision to placate Tucson’s power brokers by removing watchdog Rio Nuevo Board members Jodi Bain and Grinnell.
According to the Yellow Sheet, the general election is five months away, but Republicans are mulling a change in leadership in the Senate. One senator told a Yellow Sheet reporter that it seems as though Pierce managed to alienate the more moderate wing of the caucus – the group of senators who ensured his victory over Biggs in November.
The Yellow Sheet reported that during the session, “many House Republicans also complained privately that Pierce seemed unwilling to make concrete decisions for fear of angering one of the factions in his caucus.”
“That’s not leadership,” one House Republican told the Yellow Sheet reporter.
