Pregnant mom in collision on Nogales Highway, baby dies

2-7-14-collisionOn February 7, 2014, at approximately 3:10 p.m., Pima County Sheriff deputies responded to a collision involving three vehicles on Nogales Highway and Lumber Road. When deputies arrived, they learned the incident occurred when a northbound pick-up truck veered into the southbound lane after colliding with a northbound vehicle that was turning left onto Lumber Road.

The truck then collided head-on with a southbound passenger car.

The passenger car was driven by a 27-year-old pregnant female. She was extricated from the vehicle and flown to a trauma center with life threatening injuries. The baby was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital.

The driver of the pick-up truck was not injured. Speed and alcohol did not appear to be a factor.

The Sheriff’s Department Traffic Unit responded and took over the investigation. –
