CBP officers working at the Port of Nogales seized more than 42 pounds of heroin and an additional five pounds of cocaine, in two separate seizures on Wednesday. The drugs are worth an estimated $626,000.
Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa crossing referred Forrest Frederick Sims, 62, of Tucson for additional inspection of his Honda sedan. After a Border Patrol narcotic detection canine alerted to the vehicle’s glove box, officers located 14 packages of narcotics. Twelve of the packages contained 27.5 pounds of heroin, worth an estimated $374,000. The other two contained more than five pounds of cocaine, worth an estimated $46,000.
Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing referred a pair of Tucson women, for an additional search of a Hyundai sedan. After a service canine alerted to the presence of drugs within three backpacks that allegedly belonged to Summer Knowles, 25, and her passenger, 22-year-old Rosario Ochoa-Rojas, a total of six packages of drugs were removed. More than 15 pounds of heroin, with an estimated $206,000 were seized.
The vehicles and drugs were seized, while all three subjects were referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcements’ Homeland Security Investigations.
