Aerostat Fire contained, evacuations unlikely

Garden-CanyonSierra Vista, Arizona residents were receiving pre-evacuation notices after the Aerostat wildfire was reported on Fort Huachuca land Saturday. However, by about 7 p.m., Fort Huachuca Army base fire crews appeared to have contained the fire.

The Aerostat Fire is burning in the lower Garden Canyon and there is a potential for structures threatened, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office was encouraging all residents in the area to be prepared in case the fire approaches or crosses the Buffalo Soldier Trail.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was delivering the notices to the Choctaw and Calle Encinas areas at the request of the Sierra Vista Fire Department. Authorities were going door to door in the Choctaw area and utilizing the reverse 911 system in Sierra Vista.
