Tucson juvenile charged with car theft, armed robbery

stolen-vehicleOn May 11, 2014 at approximately 5:00 a.m., a Tucson Police officer noticed a vehicle driving north on 12th Avenue that matched the description of a stolen vehicle in a report he took earlier in the night. As the officer turned around to follow the vehicle, it pulled into a neighborhood and attempted to evade that officer as well as other responded officers.

The vehicle continued driving erratically through the neighborhood. The officer recognized the inherent danger and stopped following the fleeing vehicle. Shortly after, the vehicle appeared to have collided with brush and a fence near 12th and Palmdale. The vehicle was unoccupied.

Small unit tactics were utilized. Moments later a supervisor and an officer located and detained a male suspect as he jumped a fence on 13th Avenue. The suspect had a tablet in his possession, which was later determined to be stolen from a victim involved in a highway robbery that occurred moments prior to this incident.

The investigation into both the stolen tablet and vehicle has concluded. The suspect was identified as a juvenile. He was charged with Armed Robbery, Theft of Means of Transportation, and 3rd Degree Burglary. He was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail.
