Salvation Army provides aid to Slide Fire evacuees

slide-fireThe Salvation Army in Flagstaff is providing aid to those affected by the Slide Fire. The human-caused blaze grew past 7000 acres with more than 100 homes evacuated.

The Salvation Army is providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner for evacuees located at Sinagua middle school located at 3950 E Butler Ave in Flagstaff. The Salvation Army is also assisting stranded travelers with warn clothing. Some campers, hikers and backpackers were caught off guard by the fire and were unable to return to their base camp. The Salvation Army is providing them with coats, sweatshirts and other necessities.

“The Salvation Army is working with other agencies to assess the needs in the community,” said Lt. Ryan Miller, Flagstaff Corps Officer for The Salvation Army. “We are hoping the fire is contained and there will not be further evacuations. However, if things change we will increase our services and feedings as necessary.”

The Salvation Army has been serving the Southwest with discrimination since 1893. The Salvation Army is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church.
