The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a double homicide that occurred just south of Reno, Nevada on June 13, 2014. The suspect, 40-year old Anthony Nelson, who was recently released from prison in Arizona, was located and died after an exchange of gunfire with Carson City Sheriff’s officers near Sand Mountain, about 90 miles east of Carson City.

During their investigation detectives located a vehicle with an Arizona registration at the scene of the homicide. On June 16th, Washoe County Sheriff’s contacted the Tucson Police Department Homicide Unit and requested that a welfare check be conducted on the registered owner of the vehicle. Officers responded to a residence in the 3000 block of East 30th Street to conduct the check welfare.

Upon arrival officers could detect a foul odor and forced entry into the home. A deceased male was located inside the residence in an advanced stage of decomposition. Detectives later found signs of trauma on the body indicative of a homicide. The deceased male was identified as 32-year old Quincy Gangwer, the sole resident of the home.

Detectives determined that Mr. Gangwer was last seen alive on June 9th. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office advised Tucson Police Homicide Detectives that personal property of Mr. Gangwer was located in the possession of Anthony Nelson during the incident.
