Tucson Police arrested a man after he stole a computer tablet from the Tucson Fire Department as they were treating an individual having a seizure. The incident took place on Sunday, August 10th when the Tucson Fire Department was called to the LAOS Transit Center at 205 West Irvington Road to assist a man having a serious medical issue. As TFD approached the victim, they set their equipment down and began treating the man who was having an active seizure. That is when a suspect grabbed TFD’s computer tablet and fled southbound on foot.
A description of the suspect was given to responding officers. Officer Mike Gonzales located a subject matching the description, holding something under his shirt near the intersection of 11th/Utah. The man immediately fled on foot and Officer Gonzales gave chase. He observed the suspect jump a fence behind a business and saw the computer tablet fall from his waistband. Officer Gonzales was able to detain the suspect without incident.
The suspect, identified as 27-year old Joseph Lesperance, was positively identified by TFD as the man who ran off with the tablet. Mr. Lesperance was booked into the Pima County Jail for 1 count of Theft, a Class 4 Felony. The computer tablet was returned to TFD without damage.
