On the morning of August 14, 2014, Pima County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report that a pedestrian was hit by a semi truck. This occurred on Avra Valley Road west of Interstate 10.
During the course of the investigation at the scene, deputies determined the male had been walking on Avra Valley Road when he suddenly stepped into the roadway and was hit by the semi truck. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation. Other motorists stopped and rendered first aid to the injured male, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Northwest Fire Department, Pima County Department of Transportation and the Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to the scene as well to assist in the rescue and investigative efforts.
The deceased was identified as 23-year-old Shane Edward Rivera. The investigation continues.
