Pima County deputies swamped by flood of emergencies

car-washedPima County Sheriff’s Department responded to a large number of emergency calls during yesterday’s storm.

On a normal day, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department takes approximately 1,400 emergency (9-1-1) calls in a 24-hour period. On Monday, the call center took well over 1,000 emergency calls between 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM alone. These phone calls resulted in 279 incidents deputies responded to.

The weather related incidents handled by Pima County deputies included 25 traffic hazards, 9 river rescues, 16 vehicle collisions, 4 public hazards, 2 search and rescues.
