Maricopa County tax bill break down

The average property taxpayer has no idea where their taxes go. As a result, officials in Maricopa County are asking residents if they know that their county controlled property taxes make up only 14% of Total Property Taxes.

Annually, cities, school districts, special taxing districts and Maricopa County establish their own tax levy, or the amount of taxes that will be billed. The Maricopa County Assessor determines the “Full Cash” and “Limited Property” values used to determine the assessed values on the tax bill calculations annually. The tax rate is calculated based on the tax levy and assessed values.

The breakdown of property taxes are:

5% Other Special Districts
11% Community Colleges
55% School Districts
4% State
11% Cities
2% County Controlled Special Districts
12% County Primary
