Twenty-one city of Phoenix Sister Cities Youth Ambassadors are hosting more than 20 students from Phoenix’s nine sister cities for two weeks, from July 16 to 27, giving them a taste of a teen’s life in the United States.
The students will join in a community service day project from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 19, at three St. Vincent de Paul sites sorting items for a thrift store, painting and setting up meals for a soup kitchen. The sites are 420 W. Watkins Road, 8231 N. Seventh St. and 7018 N. 57th Ave.
Other activities planned for the international students include a visit to the downtown Phoenix, Grand Canyon, Disneyland and an Arizona Diamondbacks game. Special activities include an American Teenager Day, American Holiday Day, Thanksgiving dinner and talent show, attending a prom and a farewell pancake breakfast to offer the students an Arizona/American experience.
The international students from the nine sister cities hosted the Phoenix youth ambassadors in their homes during the month of June sharing their culture and lifestyle. Phoenix’s sister cities include Calgary, Canada; Catania, Italy; Chengdu, China; Ennis, Ireland; Grenoble, France; Hermosillo, Mexico; Himeji, Japan; Ramat-Gan, Israel; and Taipei, Taiwan.
