Pima County burglars caught

BurgsOn November 12, 2014, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department successfully apprehended two suspects as part of an investigation of vehicle break-ins. Over the course of several months, investigators noted a significant increase of smash-and-grab incidents in an area spanning from Sabino Canyon to the Rillito Riverwalk.

The Sheriff’s Auto Theft Unit joined forces with the Directed Patrol Units for the Foothills and Rincon Districts. Together they began an investigative effort spanning several weeks. Their work yielded several leads and suspects, which lead to the establishment of a surveillance team. Yesterday afternoon at approximately 3:00 PM, detectives observed the two suspects breaking into a vehicle in the parking lot of the Reid Park Zoo and took them into custody.

The investigation led detectives to the Clarion Inn at 750 W. Starr Pass Boulevard, where the suspects had rented a room. A search warrant was served on three vehicles and a hotel room. As a result detectives secured a large number of items, to include several laptop computers, miscellaneous electronics, purses, and watches. Approximately 47 grams of methamphetamine were also seized.

Both men were arrested and booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. The arrestees were identified as follows:

•  Heriberto Felix (DOB 04/02/80) charged with 3rd Degree Burglary and Possession of Burglary Tools.
•   Javier Jon Ray (DOB 05/11/81) charged with two counts of 3rd Degree Burglary and Possession of a Dangerous Drug.

The investigation is still ongoing.
